104 High Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester (0161 8343743)
The Market Restaurant has a somewhat outdated interior but that doesn deter the loyal band of regulars that come here for the warm welcome and regularly changing international menu. Whilst tempting main course options include Fillet of beef stuffed with tarragon & mustard butter, served with deep fried potato wedges, or roasted fillet of lamb served with broad beans flageolets & dill.

Le Petit Blanc Brasserie

The River Room Marco Pierre White
50 Dearmans Place, Chapel Wharf Salford, Manchester (0161 827 4000)
Situated with the very chic and sophisticated Lowry Hotel is the River Room Marco Pierre White restaurant. Like the hotel the restaurant is highly elegant, as is the food which is widely considered to be some of the very best, if not the best in Manchester, with the added bonus of great views out across the river. On the menu youll find delicious dishes such tender and succulent Aberdeen Angus fillet en daube served with celeriac puree. This restaurant is both the ideal setting for an important business lunch, or a romantic dinner for two.

Stock
4 Norfolk Street, Manchester (0161 8396644)
Stock got its name from the fact that it is housed in an impressive building that was formerly the old stock exchange building, which makes for a very grand setting. The food here is modern Italian so expect pasta in the form of linguini cooked with mixed shellfish, tomato and a touch of chilli and garlic, or tagliolini cooked with lemon, vodka and cream. Alternatively, sample the exquisite flavour of their fillet steak cooked in a Dolcelatte sauce, or roast breast of duck served on a strawberry and balsamic vinegar coulis.
